Did the Snow Storm in Salt Lake Ice the Jazz?

Snow StormRecently the Salt Lake valley was blanketed by a snow storm that made headlines locally. The ski resorts were thrilled as finally they could open up for business. While everyone is happy that we may just have a White Christmas in Salt Lake City, I find myself wondering if this had an effect on our All-Star Deron Williams or any of our other players.

The storm hit the Salt Lake valley December 7-9th and since then the Jazz haven’t won a game. More disturbing is that they hadn’t won the game prior to the storm. Since the storm, the Jazz have shot less than 50% from the field. It has iced at least one starter per game. An injury has now hit the Jazz with Okur being out with shoulder pains (added to his random back spasms).

The game in Portland has now been preceded by another storm in Salt Lake. Does this mean they will be railed upon yet again by an inferior team? I really hope not as the Jazz are one of the contenders of the title this year, if they can utilize their all-star quality talent and play some defense.

Please comment and let me know if you see any other startling correlations with the recent weather in Salt Lake and the lack of performance by our Jazz….

  1. Pat Riley said in his book about how every NBA team deals with 3 storms in a season and that it defines it’s season with the way in which it deals with such storms… How long they last, what they do to stop them and how the team develops together to dig deep.

This is the Jazz’s first storm. It’s still going and now 5 games long, however there is sunshine, the effort vs. the suns was at a higher level. Even if the Jazz were on a 5 game win streak i would likely have picked them to lose to a Suns team in Phoenix.

Milsap was an ox and more physical that Okur even in his warewolf dreams.

Where’s the Okur that frustrated and mystified Yao from the playoffs? Where’s the Okur that drains 3 pts at 40% ?

We need the Money man back and couple that with the half court pick and roll & post up game and the Storm is over.

The End Starts tonight - The Storm will cease. Close game it will be, the Jazz will battle and win a grinder.

  2. I’m not sure what it tis, but the only other team in the league with such a bad losing streak is Memphis. How bad is the situation when you are tied for ANYTHING with Memphis? I’m still confident in our win tonight over Portland. After Portland we should have an easy win in Seattle. those 2 wins can give us the pick-me-up that we need to overcome Altanta and Charlotte in the 2 games after that as well. I think our losing streak should easily turn around and by next weekend we’ll be on a 4-win streak. Streaks are good except when they stink!

  3. The Jazz have gone frigid. I’m sick and tired of wasting my evenings waiting on the edge of my seat while Utah plays to within or just over a few points of their opponent only to blow it with poor foul shooting and pathetic execution. They’re as much of a joke right now as some of these predictions that some of you have made about them “going on a four game winning streak” or saying “Boozer will go off for 30 points tonight.”

How in the world can you make a prediction like that when the only consistency coming from the Jazz right now is their blowing each opportunity they’ve had in each of their last six losses of actually taking the game back in the fourth quarter. They can’t do it. They let the crowd, the ref’s poor calls, and their own piss-poor play ruin any chance they ever have of coming from behind and actually winning.

As long as they show this style of play, their immaturity and lack of mental toughness will never be enough to establish them as any type of threat to any real championship contending team.

Here’s a prediction for you: The Jazz will never have a chance at a title until they decide to grow up and force their opponent to play their style of game for four solid quarters of basketball each night. That’s a championship team for you - consistency and mental toughness.

I just wish that they could have let us know before the game tonight that we were going to see the same crap we had the last five games. I could have at least done something a little more productive and enjoyable with those two hours. I want my money back!
